Reviews

Amazing!

"I had a great time during my visit. Purchased a gyuto and learned plenty from one of the staff about knives. It would’ve been a 5 star review if I had knew there was an industry discount as I work at Miku."

Jonathan B. (4/5)

Great in both form and function

"Easy to use and nice to look at, the rep at the store was very helpful in showing me how to use it and explaining why it's necessary. Also nice that it was discounted (assuming it's a perk of purchasing alongside an actual knife). Nice that it allows for honing both Japanese and Western knives."

Cece X. (5/5)

Not for me

"I have Japanese knives, and both rods(black being the least effective)do not even touch my knives. Four swipes a side with a diamond steel, fixed that. These went back."

steve f. (2/5)

Q&A

Hi, should I hone my J. A. Henckels cleaver at 20 degrees? Thanks.
Hi Nick, 20 degrees sounds good - Ellie
What is the handle made of? It looks just like ceramic, but it must not be...
Hey James, It does look similar but the handle is made of a hard plastic. Alex
Any tips in general on how to avoid rounding the knife tip? I've had problems in the past with honing rods and tip rounding. If you ease off too much, you don't hone the tip, but if not, it can scrape around the curve of the rod.
Hey there! That can definitely be tricky. You can always try skipping the tip, then hone just the tip afterwards, which should allow you to be more precise. I hope this helps!
Is this one good for Shibata Kotetsu R2 knives? I don't know which one to choose, black or white.
Hey there! I would go black if you just plan to do Japanese knives, and white if you plan to do both western and Japanese!
how do you clean the ceramic rod?
Hi there, you can just use the course side of a kitchen scrubber or a magic eraser to take off the the grey marks. After a good clean I find it can work a little better too! - Ellie
