A note about measurements: Knife edge length is shorter than stated, as Sakai knives are measured from the front of the handle to the tip. Additionally, some knives feature a small 'machi' gap between the handle and blade.

"However, this is the only Japanese knife I own that showed some issues with its surface finish… The pictures show some mild degree of what I would describe as delamination… The surface finish apperas to have lifted, and the steel underneath is showing. I can not say I mind very much… this is still a very efficient knife. And I guess this goes with handmade ancient traditional knives… This knife works very well. However, are there issues with this "misty" finish? I have had no problems whatsoever with the damascus-finish knives i bought from Knifewear (Masashi Shiroshu, Kobayashi SG2 Damascus Santoku and others…)."
