Knife Sharpening: Where to Get It Done in Calgary

Knife Sharpening: Where to Get It Done in Calgary

One thing every knife owner can relate to– whether you’re a long-time knifenerd, a professional chef, or a casual home cook– is that everybody needs to get their knives sharpened at some point. Sharp knives are safer and more fun to cook with! And while some can do it on their own, others don’t have the time or tools to do it at home. Personally, I love getting my hands dirty and sharpening my knives on my own, but I also know myself well enough to know that I want an excuse to do a little shopping while someone else does the work for me. (Who doesn’t?)

Why should I get my knife professionally sharpened at Knifewear?

Glad you asked. With 20 years in the business (biz, for the hip ones), Knifewear is no stranger to the sharpening game. We handle several different types of knife shapes, from high-end to the basic stuff, and we are always going to get your knives sharper than you might have thought was actually possible. Not that it’s a competition, of course, but our pros sure sharpen like it.

Another really special thing about our sharpening services, is that we donate 50% of our sharpening proceeds to Canadian charities that we’re honored to be able to work with. Some of our recent contributions include contributions to the Moose Hide Foundation, Fundraising for Kumamoto Earthquake relief efforts, and Fundraising for Venezuela Earthquake relief efforts. Knifewear has donated $1.8M to charity as of July 2026. For more information on how our sharpening makes an impact on some incredible causes, be sure to check out our Foundations page.

Where can I get it done?

We’ve got two locations to check out here in Calgary! The first is old reliable, the Calgary Inglewood location, over at 1316 9 Ave SE. They’ve got a fantastic selection over there– and the team will usually have your knives sharpened by the time you’ve finished browsing, or by the time you’ve bought your newest knife. Don’t forget our upcoming new and improved (and bigger) location, one block east at 1406 9th Ave SE! With way more selection, but the same staff we both know and love. What’s not to like?

The second is the Calgary Farmer’s Market South location, over at 510 77 Ave SE. Here, you’re definitely going to be spoiled for choice for what you can do while you’re waiting for your knives to get sharpened. Feel like browsing knives? We’ve got you covered. Want to peruse some of the other stalls? Peruse away, and pick up some cooking spice essentials at Silk Road Spices. Hungry, or just a fellow foodie? Grab some dim sum at Shanghai Fine Foods, or something to drink at Analogue Coffee! We’ll almost always have your knives ready to go by the time you finish up with whatever you decide to do. (Did I mention that the Calgary Farmers’ Market location has crazy good parking, with a massive lot surrounding the market?)

How long will it take?

Typically, your knives will be ready by the time you’re done browsing or shopping around. Our teams work crazy hard to get your knives done in a flash, but give you just enough time to browse the rest of our selection while you wait. For those of you who like numbers, a good estimate is usually around 15-20 minutes.

However, let it be known that while our teams are skilled, we’re not machines. Sometimes we get busy, and our hands get tied. Whenever this happens, we might not have your knives done as fast as usual. We don’t ever rush sharpening– we want your knives to come out with the usual great quality you’d expect from professional sharpening. We’ll always let you know how long the process is going to take, and if we’ll need more time to make sure the job gets done right. If you’re ever curious about what the timing is going to look like before you drop your knives off, give us a call, and we’ll give you a heads up.

What can Knifewear sharpen?

The better question would be what can’t we sharpen? The only things we don’t offer sharpening services for are serrated blades (bread knives, serrated steak knives, etc), and weapons. So swords, shuriken, katanas, wakizashis, and so on, are off the sharpening-centric table.

For list enthusiasts, here’s what we can offer sharpening for right now:

  • Gyuto
  • Santoku
  • Petty
  • Nakiri
  • Bunka
  • Sujihiki
  • Honesuki
  • Yanagiba
  • Usuba
  • Boning Knives
  • Chef’s Knives
  • Multipurpose Chef’s Knives
  • Utility Knives
  • Paring Knives
  • Vegetable Knives
  • Carving Knives
  • Most other kitchen knives

If you have a knife that isn’t on this list, let us know! We’d be happy to confirm if we can or can’t sharpen it for you.
