About the Shape - This is the knife for smaller jobs that are done on a cutting board. Perfect for slicing shallots, cutting herbs, and boning smaller proteins. Additionally, Petty knives are an indispensable tool for those who feel uncomfortable wielding a larger chef knife.

About Manaka Hamono - Shunsuke Manaka is a relatively young blacksmith in Kasukabe, Saitama pref. He is 3rd generation knife maker in the area. His father-in-law became almost a wholesaler instead of blacksmithing. He didn’t like the way his father-in-law operates his business, so he decided to be a blacksmith. He didn’t have anyone who could teach him but fortunately he had a buncu of equipment that he inherited (spring hammer, sharpening wheel etc.). He began making knives about 10 years ago. With many years of struggle and learning, he attained the technique to forge-weld in house even stainless steels. Now he forge-weld everything in house including Carbon/soft steel, Stainless/stainless steel and carbon/stainless steel. He learnt quite a bit of heat treatment including sub-zero heat treatment for stainless steel. He likes ATS-34 stainless steel (Hitachi made Stanless steel pretty popular steel among custom knife makers in Japan). He also forges ZDP-189 as well as VANADIS 4 Extra.
