Collection: Kagekiyo

Sakai, the land of the biggest tomb in the world, is one of the most prolific knife-making regions in Japan, renowned for producing some of the best quality blades in the world. Kagekiyo is no exception to that rule.

Baba Hamono is the company behind Kagekiyo. Founded in 1916, Baba Hamono has worked with craftspeople from all over Sakai to produce blades, adding their own handles and branding them under their own name. This gives them the flexibility to produce nearly any kind of blade they want, so we get to see a ton of variety coming from them.

In 2017, Baba Hamono expanded their business and opened their own sharpening workshop to produce their signature brand “Kagekiyo”. All Kagekiyo knives are made by master craftspeople, and then sharpened by their team led by Nishida-san. Nishida-san learned his skills from the legendary Morihiro-san, so he focuses on achieving supreme sharpness, allowing his blades to cut like a razor.
