Industry Mondays: Free Knife Sharpening for Chefs!

Industry Mondays: Free Knife Sharpening for Chefs!

When I worked in restaurants, my knives were always sharp. They had to be because we worked with beautiful ingredients and food costs were high. We had to be precise. While I managed to get a decent edge every weekend with my self-taught technique, the weirdos over at Knifewear always did a way better job than me. It only cost $10 to get my knife done, and half of it went to charity. Taking my knife in meant I didn’t have to spend my little free time sharpening it myself.

While these days are long past for me (like 12 years ago) and I now have both the free time and skills to do an expert job on my knives, chefs and cooks continue to trust us with their knives. Because so many of us at Knifewear were once chefs and we know the importance of a perfect edge in a professional setting, we’ve decided to give back to our former comrades.

Every Monday at Knifewear Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary, all professional chefs and cooks get one free knife sharpening! One knife per person, per week. Yup, that means you can get a different knife sharpened FOR FREE every Monday. If you have more than one knife to get done on the same day, they’ll only cost $10-20 per additional blade and we’ll give half of that to charity.

We started ‘Industry Monday’ back in 2023. It’s since grown to all of our shops, and become a hub of industry activity on a day that most chefs have off work.  Folks can hang out and reconnect while we sharpen, put up hiring ads for their restaurants, and make new friends! We’ll get your knives turned around as fast as possible so you can show up for service well-equipped.

I hope to see you at the next Industry Monday, and if you’re not in the industry, you’re still welcome to swing by and hang out!
