Aogami Super (Blue Carbon Steel)

If you take the recipe for Aogami #1 or #2 and tweak it a bit, you can make a really special steel called Super Blue. Most importantly, it's got more carbon, so it can get harder and stay sharp longer! Aogami Super also has a bit of extra chromium to slow down rusting and a smidge of vanadium to increase toughness, reducing the chances of chipping. It's a knife nerd's dream.

Special care must be taken with carbon knives as they are reactive and prone to rust. Make sure to wipe off the blade regularly during use as well as wash and dry it thoroughly when you're done. However, after a nice strong patina has formed on the blade they are less likely to rust. Patina is your friend!

Steel Composition -  Carbon (C) 1.4–1.5%, Silicon (Si) 0.1–0.2%, Manganese (Mn) 0.2–0.3%, Chromium (Cr) 0.3–0.5%, Tungsten (W) 2–2.5%, Vanadium (V) 0.3–0.5%

Rockwell Hardness 63–64

A note about measurements: Handmade Japanese knives can vary in their dimensions, so these measurements are only an example.
