Knifewear's Top 10 Gift Knives of 2026

Knifewear's Top 10 Gift Knives of 2026

Knives make great gifts. Every time someone uses that knife, they will think about you, and if cared for, it will last a lifetime. I recommend that you gift a knife that has a stunning appearance so the recipient is immediately excited to use it, something that is easy to care for, and doesn't break the bank. The side benefit of gifting a knife is getting asked to dinner more often.

Here are my top gift knives for 2026.

It’s not just Japan who have a great history of knifemaking, and this beautiful utility knife from Goyon-Chazeau showcases the grand traditions of France.  A great picnic knife, cheeseboard knife, fruit knife, that-one-knife-that-your-gran-uses-for-everything-knife, and at this price point, you can treat yourself to one too!

Made in Seki, this blade is expertly crafted from VG10 stainless steel, which offers an excellent balance of sharpness and toughness. The stunning heptagon-shaped handle is made with pakka wood for its strength, and feels excellent in the hand.  Nakiri’s are traditionally a vegetable knife, but this guy can really be an all-rounder!

CCK Cleaver "Vegetable Knife" Stainless Steel Chopper 195mm - KF1904 from Chan Chi Kee (CCK)

CCK Cleaver "Vegetable Knife" Stainless Steel Chopper 195mm - KF1904

“I just want something that can do it all.”  Sound familiar?  This guy might just tick all the boxes.  Veggies? Check. Meats? Check. Bones? Check (but, like, use the back end of the knife, and nothing crazy big).  Garlic smasher? You’re gosh darn right it can!  Cleavers really are versatile, and often a great choice for someone who already has the classic Japanese shapes in their collection.

Nigara VG XEOS Tsuchime Damascus Gyuto 225mm with a Damascus-patterned blade and dark wooden octagonal handle, displayed on a marbled surface, epitomizing Japanese craftsmanship and versatility for culinary enthusiasts.

Nigara VG XEOS Tsuchime Damascus Gyuto 225mm
Regular price $334.00 USD
Regular price Sale price $334.00 USD

A gyuto can be another great option for the “one knife to rule them all”.  This knife really appeals to my sense of what a Japanese knife classically is.  Hammering and damascus steel give this the heart-throb looks, and the oak handle really does make this a timeless piece.

Moritaka Ishime Sujihiki 360mm from Moritaka

Moritaka Ishime Sujihiki 360mm
Regular price $432.00 USD
Regular price Sale price $432.00 USD

Those briskets won’t know what him ‘em!  If you’re buying for someone who is loading up the smoker at -15℃, chances are they take their meat very seriously.  This knife is the perfect companion for a big slab of brisket or pork belly.  One clean slice, no tearing!

Touroku Sakai Aogami Damascus Kiritsuke Petty 150mm knife with a laminated steel blade and octagonal wooden handle on a brown surface with leaf motifs, ideal for precise kitchen tasks.

Touroku Sakai Aogami Damascus Kiritsuke Petty 150mm
Regular price $395.00 USD
Regular price Sale price $395.00 USD
Sale Sold out

I won’t lie, this is one hell of a gift.  And I probably wouldn’t get this for someone as their first knife, as it can rust if you’re not careful.  But I’ll be damned if I wouldn’t be ecstatic to receive this knife as a gift.  If your loved one already has a few Japanese knives in his roll, this pretty from Kohei Ebuchi-san would really be a feather in the cap. This really is a show-stopper.

Since then, Matt has put his 10 years of kitchens behind him to get a grip (geddit?) on some awesome knives! Rocking some colourful tattoos, be sure to ask Matt about mid-west Punk, Pork Belly, and Pizza.
