Knifewear's Hamono-ya (knife shop) opened quietly in March 2008. Look for the red room located at the back of Bite Groceteria.

We offer exquisite Japanese knives, expert knowledge, informed knife purchasing decisions, on-site knife sharpening/repairs, Spanish cleavers, cooking inspired t-shirts, knife maintenance equipment.

To make a proper knife purchase decision we believe that the knife should be handled to assess the balance and to check the fit and finish. For this reason there is always a few tomatoes around to test drive the knives. Most knives can be tested on a tomato before you make a decision.

All knives purchased through Knifewear are sharpened before they leave as not all Japanese knives are shipped sharpened to their full potential. The first time the blades need re-sharpening we will do the job for free. You can even grab a seat, if you fancy, and watch your knife being sharpened. After that we can talk about a maintenance program. We believe in informed knife purchasing and post sale support.

The knife buying experience should be a learning experience and enjoyable. At the Hamono-ya there will be no rushing or pressure. Take your time, ask questions, try a few knives and make the right decision.
