Masakage Yuki - Trending

Handmade with a hard Shirogami (white) carbon steel, then clad in a soft stainless steel, the Yuki's are my kinda knife. You get all the benefits of a carbon blade (great edge retention, easy sharpening and a silky, smooth cut), with only minor maintenance issues (possible rusting). It's a truly genius way to make a knife.

They are forged by Hiroshi Kato, a practicing blacksmith from Takefu Village with over 50 years experience. Kato San runs a very professional workshop and has even taken on great apprentices like Yu Kurosaki and Toru Tamura.

This particular line from Masakage has been named "Yuki" (snow) due to the frosty Nashiji finish; not to mention the white (magnolia) and red (pakka wood) handle really give it a wintery look. How cool is that?

All Masakage Knives are handmade in Japan by blacksmiths chosen for their excellence. Shibata San, Hiroshima’s top knife sharpener, selects and design these knives. All Masakage knives are hand sharpened by Shibata San with his unique technique of using a different grit on each side of the blade. This gives a smooth, sharp edge that stays sharp longer than standard sharpening.
