Kato-san started blacksmithing in 1960 by appren- ticing under his father. He runs a very professional workshop and has even taken on great apprentices like Yu Kurosaki and Toru Tamura. Even after over 50 years of knife making, he's still inspired by the thought of people using his knives to prepare food. When making knives he's always thinking about balance, and where the knife needs to be thin and where it needs to be strong.
